Alberta Whittle: LAGAREH – The Last Born
11.mrt.24, 19:30
In this film, Alberta Whittle takes us on a journey through Venice, London, Ayrshire, Sierra Leone, and Barbados: places connected by the (consequences of) transatlantic slavery of the past, and by the racism still present in our contemporary society.
In ‘LAGAREH’, Whittle focuses on the experiences, voices, and actions of black and queer women, against the backdrop of these places of mourning and loss. Throughout her film, she emphasizes the importance of family ties and compassion to counter racism. ‘LAGAREH – The Last Born’ is a call to action, to find new ways to exist in the world. An invitation not only to dream of a new future but to create a life centered around love.
Followed by a discussion with Zeynep Kubat, Victoire Karera Kampire, and Maxime Jean-Baptiste.
