Join us on our finissage of eye below ear on the 6th of June. Even though the exhibition runs until the 8th of June, we’ll enter the final weekend with a last evening of performances. Participating artists Serene Hui and JJJJJerome Ellis will each touch on the inherrent musicality of speech, in their own beautiful way.
Serene Hui, The Siren
Performance about the voice as an instrument, politics, and mythology surrounding the female voice.
JJJJJerome Ellis, The Clearing
A new performance with live music (saxophone) and spoken word, possibly a rendition of The Clearing or something new.
In the eye below ear exhibition, Jerome Ellis presents The Clearing (2021), an album and a book (also available at the desk). Jerome’s artist name is spelled with five j’s as a reference to stuttering. Jerome has a glottal stop, a type of stutter where the person briefly pauses. He uses this as a strategy in his music and poetry, incorporating pauses into compositions and adjusting the rhythm.
