    • We are delighted to announce the 11th edition of Contour Biennale, curated by Sofia Lemos. In this relaunch edition, a selection of moving-image installations by Belgian and international artists will unfold across distinctive venues in Mechelen.

    Join us on Saturday, 5 September for an opening drink at 6pm at Kunsthal Mechelen.

    As the main partner venue of Contour Biennale 11, Kunsthal Mechelen will serve as the Biennale's central meeting point, besides being an exhibition space and hosting part of the programme of moving image.

    Contour Biennale

    The Eyes of the Heart and the Soul of the World

    Titled The Eyes of the Heart and the Soul of the World, Contour Biennale 11 is dedicated to the “imaginal”: a space of potentiality where subtle perception and lived experiences come together in images that reveal rather than represent, reconciling internal and outer realities.

    This edition will bring together practices that focus on visions, dreams, and projections that arise during life’s transformations—from gestation and birth to childhood and adolescence, from gender transition and ageing to love and loss, from climate crisis and exile to regeneration and return—as images that both move us and mobilise change.

    About the curator: Sofia Lemos

    Sofia Lemos is a curator and writer whose work engages the intersections of art, performance, and discourse, with a sustained focus on ecology and critical practice. You can find more information about the curator through the link below

    About Contour Biennale

    Since its founding in 2003, Contour Biennale has carved out a singular space in the landscape of moving image and time-based media, engaging with the shifting contours of artistic practice with each edition. Over ten iterations, it has evolved into an internationally widely acclaimed biennale—one that resists fixity, continuously reimagining itself to resonate with both local rhythms and international currents.

    Deeply entangled with its surroundings, Contour has always been more than an exhibition; it is a site of inquiry, a critical lens on the questions of our time.
