Aline Bouvy - new PLAKT-poster on the facade of De Garage

In her works, Aline Bouvy investigates who we are, how we see ourselves and how the expectations of others influence us.

In her new solo exhibition ‘Hot Flashes’ at Casino Luxemburg, Aline Bouvy explores the transition from child to adult. It’s a period in which we not only grow, experiment and discover the world, but also deal with the growing expectations of others. There’s rules, social norms and unspoken expectations that define what’s allowed and what isn’t. Bouvy shows that even seemingly innocent moments are influenced by the pressure to adjust.

In ‘Letter to my future self’ we see an old postcard on which a child delivers a letter to a letterbox. The image feels soft and nostalgic but boils up some questions: who were we in the past? Who are we now? And who do we hope to become? The letter to your future self is as much about dreaming as it is about uncertainty. The work invites you to stand still and reflect at your own growth and the person you’re still becoming today.

With PLAKT, Kunsthal Mechelen and Artlead bring contemporary art into the public space. By inviting artists to create posters for the facades of art organizations, the city itself becomes a place for encounter, reflection, and imagination.
