Meet the curator: Leana Boven

On 23 May, WAYWARD SANCTUARIES opens at De Garage, curated by Leana Boven.

Leana Boven (°Paramaribo) is a curator, writer, and researcher whose work centres around community, solidarity, diasporic identity, spatial justice, and anti-colonial artistic practices, with a particular interest in collective forms of making that challenge dominant notions of progress.

She curated her first exhibition at MAMA Rotterdam in 2020, and has since worked at Casco Art Institute and Gemaal op Zuid. Currently, she works as a curator at Stroom Den Haag, where she curated exhibitions including Positions: Unearthing (2026) and Beloved Waters (2025). She is also a tutor at the Master Social Design at the Design Academy Eindhoven, and regularly writes for Metropolis M.
